EWP1: Ad hoc Networking in 802.11x WLAN Scenarios (Raychaudhuri, Seskar, Rutgers & Acharya, IBM)
This experimental work package aims to investigate the use of ad hoc networking techniques to extend the capacity, range and QoS of 802.11x WLANs
EWP2:: Message-based Multimedia Delivery (Schulzrinne, Columbia & Yates, Rutgers)
This project will explore the possibility of exploiting short-range, high-speed wireless communication between mobile devices to study message passing systems to support comunications.
EWP3: XML-based Content Multicasting for Mobile Information Services (Ott, Raychaudhuri, Rutgers)
This project investigates an overlay content multicasting scheme that uses routing based on XML content tags to distribute information within the network
EWP4: Location-based mobile network services (Schulzrinne, Columbia)
This project explores development of new services using the underlying available location information.
EWP5: Pervasive computing models for sensor networks (Parashar, Zhang, Ott,Rutgers)
This project investigates innovative programming approaches based on autonomic components that export information and policies about their behavior, resource requirements, performance, interactivity and adaptability to system and application dynamics.
EWP6: Security protocols for next-generation wireless networks (Kobayashi, Princeton & Trappe, Rutgers)
This project shall examine the problem of securing ad hoc networks, and develop a suite of secure routing protocols, authentication protocols, and tools for studying distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. Also, the task of providing confidentiality to multicast applications deployed on a UMTS 3G network will be studied.
EWP7: Peer-to-peer infrastructure for VoIP and IM with cooperative multi-hop MAC (Acharya, Saha, IBM)
The primary goal of the project is to support peer-to-peer SIP-based time-critical applications (VoIP and IM) on wireless mesh networks.
EWP8: Intelligent Network Middleware for Mobile Data Services (Paul, Lucent Bell Labs)
This experimental work package aims to investigate the use of modular service creation blocks for the composition of novel services on the 4G networks
EWP9: Power & Bandwidth Efficient Media Delivery to Portable Platforms (Ramaswamy, Wang - Thomson)
This work package will address the power efficiency of audio/video compression codecs via a systematic approach that account for both the power consumption of the coding method, as well as the hardware/software architecture of the platform. It will also deal with optimizing WLANs for bandwidth efficiency and resiliency for media transport. The problem of error control for WLANs in media streaming scenarios will be examined using real-world error data from the field testbed. It will also involve testbed prototyping of seamless interworking of media services over hybrid 3G/WLAN scenarios.
